Science Lab
Science Labs at Soofia International School
At Soofia International School, we believe that science is best understood through practical experience and exploration. Our well-equipped science laboratories provide students with a dynamic environment where they can actively engage with scientific concepts through experimentation, observation, and inquiry-based learning.
From primary levels to A-Level, students are encouraged to explore, question, and discover, helping them build a strong foundation in scientific knowledge and critical thinking. We strongly emphasize firsthand learning, as it plays a vital role in understanding scientific theories. Students across all grade levels actively participate in laboratory work, gaining valuable practical experience.
Advanced Science Facilities
01. Biochemistry Lab
A state-of-the-art laboratory accommodating up to 23 students, equipped with advanced tools such as electrophoresis stations, photo digital calorimeters, and LCD microscopes. This lab enables students to explore complex biological and chemical processes through detailed experiments.
02. Physics Lab
Designed to accommodate up to 24 students, this lab provides a dedicated space for understanding physical principles through practical experiments, demonstrations, and interactive learning activities.
Some biotech equipment in the laboratory commonly used by the students in A-level
The Electrophoresis station
This is used by students when dealing with genetics. The equipment is used to separate DNA, RNA and sometimes proteins based on their sizes and electrical charge. It is an ideal instrument used to analyze DNA for example in forensics and evolution as well as in classification of organisms based on their DNA and thus the proteins they synthesize
The photo digital calorimeter
This high biotech equipment is used when students are dealing with biochemistry and when dealing with the transport of oxygen in the blood.
The instrument measures the absorbance of wavelengths of light at a particular frequency by a sample. This will give a unique coloration from which the concentration of the solute can be accurately determined.
In the case of transport of oxygen in the blood this equipment is used to determine the partial pressure of oxygen. The result from this can be used to determine the health or state of the cardiovascular system of an individual.
LCD microscopes
LCD microscopes provide clear and magnified digital images, making it easier for students to study cells and tissues in detail. They enhance understanding through better visualization and allow group learning through screen display. These microscopes are also user-friendly, helping students engage more effectively with practical biology lessons.
Smoky sue
Smoky Sue is a specialized piece of equipment used to demonstrate the harmful effects of smoking in a clear and practical way. It works by simulating the process of smoking and collecting the tar and other residues produced from tobacco.
Through this demonstration, students are able to visually observe the harmful substances present in tobacco smoke, making the learning experience more impactful and meaningful. It helps create awareness about the dangers of smoking and its effects on human health, particularly the respiratory system.
